MAIN FUNCTIONS
  1. Management and maintenance of Auqaf mosques and Shrines.
  2. Appointment of mosque/shrine functionaries.
  3. Provision of physical facilities to mosques and Shrines.
  4. Constitution of Mosque Committees.
  5. Vetting of designs of mosques through CDA.
  6. Preparation of plan for repair/renovation of mosques.
  7. Holding of Naat and Qiraat Competitions.
  8. Holding of Urs and religious functions at the Auqaf-managed Shrines.
  9. Development Project of Darbar Hazrat Barri Imam (RA).
PREAMABLE
  1. With the promulgation of Federal Auqaf (Control) Act, 1976, the Ministry of Religious Affairs assumed the responsibility of looking after the newly constructed/selected mosques and shrines in Islamabad. Secretary, Ministry of Religious Affairs and Minorities Affairs was designated as the Administrator General of Auqaf. The Ministry had not yet created the necessary organizational set up inconsonance with the said Act however, the Federal Cabinet decided to de-federalize the Auqaf. However, to the extent of Islamabad Capital Territory, the Ministry of Religious Affairs continued to look after this function, when the (Federal) Auqaf Directorate was transferred to the Administrator, ICT with effect from 1st September 1981, by virtue of the Presidential directive no:883.
  2. Under the new arrangement, the Administrator (now the Chief Commissioner, ICT) was designated as the Administrator General of Auqaf whereas the Deputy Commissioner, ICT, was entrusted the function of Director Auqaf by virtue of his office.
  3. The Shrine of Hazrat Barri Imam (RA) at Noorpur Shahan Islamabad was taken over by the Federal Government in 1976. The Shrine belongs to Shah Abdul Latif Barri Imam (RA) who was a contemporary of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb Alamgir.
  4. The annual urs of Hazrat Barri Imam (R.A) is celebrated every year during the month of May.
